Wonder Woman has a storied history of vanquishing formidable foes, from gods to monsters, often relying on her own strength and courage. However, recent events have thrust her into a series of intense battles against some of the DC Universe's most powerful adversaries, weakening her greatly. Fortunately, she has an All-Amazon "Justice League" at her disposal, prepared to fight and die for her, whether Diana wants it or not.
Wonder Woman #10 by Tom King, Daniel Sampere, and Tomeu Morey continues the Sovereign's relentless assault on Wonder Woman, as he enlists her most formidable and deadly foes in a bid to permanently vanquish the Amazon Princess. Despite the Sovereign's persistent efforts, Diana has thus far prevailed against him.
Despite her immortality, even Wonder Woman can't sustain endless fighting. This is evident in Wonder Woman #6, where the Sovereign unleashes an army of Diana’s most formidable foes against her, including Silver Swan, Angle Man, Doctor Psycho, Giganta, and Darkseid’s Daughter, Grail. Despite emerging victorious against the former four villains, Diana becomes significantly weakened and barely manages to hold her own against Grail. Although she ultimately prevails, she promptly collapses after the battle concludes. This underscores the fact that despite Wonder Woman's consistent victories against the Sovereign thus far, he is gradually closing in on finally defeating her.
However, the synopsis and accompanying art also offer hope for Wonder Woman's impending battle against Cheetah, hinting at the possible intervention of Wonder Girls Donna Troy, Yara Flor, and Cassie Sandsmark. Previous issues of King’s run have depicted the Wonder Girls attempting to persuade Diana to accept their assistance. Despite their persistence, Wonder Woman, concerned for their safety, has consistently rejected their offer. Nevertheless, the trio remains resolute, as demonstrated in Wonder Woman #5 when they surprise Diana at her apartment, declaring their intention to aid her despite their prior agreement to respect her wishes.
Thus, it appears that Wonder Woman #10 may witness the realization of this unwanted assistance, as indicated by the synopsis segment stating, “The Wonder Girls may have promised their mentor that they'd stay out of her fight, but well-behaved heroes seldom make history.” Therefore, according to this teaser, it seems that Diana will not confront Cheetah or the Sovereign solo. However, what remains intriguing is whether Wonder Woman will willingly accept the Wonde Girls' aid when the moment arrives, or if the girls' refusal to stand down will be perceived by Diana as a breach of trust and honor.
The impending battle against Cheetah carries implications beyond the possible demise of Wonder Woman and the unchecked villainy of Minerva. Should Diana fall, the Sovereign, the secret king of the United States, will face no further interference from Wonder Woman in the pursuit of his ultimate goal to destroy everything Diana has stood for—peace and prosperity between the Amazons and humans, women empowerment, and TRUTH. Thus, if the Sovereign manages to remove Wonder Woman from the board, the implications will be grave as he will be able to rule unchecked, allowing oppression and lies to run rampant.
