We begin my 3rd favorite Zelda in the series and by far the ahrdest of all of them. Zelda II - The Adventure of Link

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is a unique entry in the acclaimed The Legend of Zelda series developed and published by Nintendo for the NES. Released in 1987 in Japan and 1988 in North America, it is the direct sequel to the original The Legend of Zelda, but it significantly deviates from its predecessor in terms of gameplay and structure. Here are some key aspects of the game:

Unlike the original game, which used a top-down perspective, "Zelda II" features a side-scrolling view for most of the action sequences. Players control Link in a platformer-style environment during combat and exploration inside towns, palaces, and on the world map.
RPG Elements: This installment introduces role-playing game (RPG) elements. Link gains experience points (EXP) from defeating enemies, which can be used to level up and enhance his attributes such as attack power, magic, and health.
Magic System: Link can learn and use a variety of spells, which are essential for both combat and solving puzzles. Magic points (MP) are consumed when casting spells, adding a strategic layer to the gameplay.
Overworld Map: The game switches to a top-down perspective when navigating the overworld map. Encounters with enemies on this map transition into side-scrolling battle scenes or mini-dungeons.

The game's narrative continues the saga of Link's quest to save Princess Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule. Zelda II's plot revolves around an ancient prophecy and the resurrection of a dark sorcerer named Ganon. To awaken a sleeping Princess Zelda, Link must recover the Triforce of Courage by placing six crystals in palaces scattered across Hyrule and ultimately conquering the Great Palace.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link received mixed reactions upon release. While praised for its ambition and depth, some fans were divided over the drastic changes in gameplay style compared to the first game. Despite this, it remains an influential title, known for its challenging difficulty and its bold experimentation within the franchise. Over the years, it has been re-released on various platforms, including the Virtual Console, NES Classic Edition, and Nintendo Switch Online service, allowing new generations to experience its unique take on the Zelda formula.

The graphics were a significant step forward for the time, with detailed sprites and varied environments. The music, composed by Akito Nakatsuka, features memorable tracks that complement the game's adventurous spirit, though it is less celebrated compared to other entries in the series.
Overall, "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" stands out as a distinctive and bold chapter in the Zelda series, noteworthy for its RPG elements, side-scrolling action, and significant departure from the original game's formula.
