Beyond Visual Combat Mode F-15

1. Turn on your radar: "I"
2. Switch to BVR mode: "2"
3. Switch to AIM-120 missile: Press "D" until you get a large circular reticle, the smaller circle is the AIM-9 Sidewinder.
4. Move the cursor on the right bottom screen with these key commands. UP ";" Down "." Left "," Right "/"
5. To lock onto the target when you see a small solid line on the radar screen move the cursor and press, "Enter" to lock onto the target. To unlock the target press, "Enter" again, or "Backspace". When you lock onto the target, don't unlock the target, or your missiles will lose track and not hit the target.
When you use the BVR mode, you must turn your radar on, because it is a system that locks on with radar. Your enemy may try to fool it by using ECMs(Electronic counter measures), but you will know which are the decoys and which is the target. How? Because when you shoot a radar beam at the decoy, it will not send a radar signature back. You will automatically know it is a decoy from this. The ECM is used, so your enemy cannot get a lock on you as quickly, but they can if they pick the right target and lock on. With BVR mode, you can use the AIM-9 or the AIM-120, but there is no point in using a short range missile like an AIM-9, because it simply doesn't have the range to go beyond 30 knots or more. It uses IR tracking, or it tracks the heat signature on your target. So, this missile will track onto the exhaust of an aircraft, or the engines.
The Beyond Visual Combat mode is useful to use against long range air threats or targets. Your targets should be about 30 knots or beyond. However, if you are too far away the missiles will lose a lot of velocity and be less effective. The AIM-120 has a speed of mach 4.0, and a effective range of 61 knots/67 miles/110 kms to 99 knots/110 miles/180 kms. The BVR mode should only be employed for long range air threats. For close range combat employ the bore sight mode, or the close combat mode/dogfighting mode. Your enemies might fool your missiles with chaffs, or they may maneuver away from it. Once you get a radar lock on your opponent's aircraft, they will know someone is locking onto them.
