The Shapeshifters pulled the trigger on a radio edit bringing in Cookie, a singer from the London Community Gospel Choir, who rerecorded the sampled vocals and added extra verses.

The massive popularity in the clubs immediately translated into the mainstream success of the radio edit and Lola’s Theme debuted at Number 1 on the UK singles chart and later hit number 1 on the US dance.
After the success of “Lola’s Theme” the Shapeshifters went on to have a further two Top 20 hits in the United Kingdom ("Back to Basics" and "Incredible"). "Lola's Theme" was nominated for "Best British Single" at the 2005 Brit Awards

During the summer of 2017, Max Reich stepped away from the outfit, leaving long term studio partner Simon Marlin to carry on producing and touring.
