PLOT (So Far)
Eons ago, people lived in a mystical realm known only as the Forbidden Lands. Little is known about this civilization, as the realm has been devoid of human life for millennia. Some suggest that it was a pestilence brought about by a wrathful god. Others claim it to be a string of especially bad crop failures. Still others suggest that the people of the land died out due to civil war. Whatever the reason for their disappearance was, all that remains to suggest that mankind lived in the area are several magnificent ruins. Had it not been for the adventure of one man, the Forbidden Lands would have been eroded from history.
One day, Wander, a young soldier, ventures into the Forbidden Lands with the corpse of his lover, Mono. Riding his trusted horse, Agro, they quickly reach the realm and venture into a magnificent shrine that towers over the landscape. After laying her corpse on a religious altar, Wander is interrupted by the resonant boom of the realm’s watchful deity, Dormin, who laughs at his pleas of bring back Mono from the dead. However, they are enchanted by his mystical sword and proceed to tell him that they know how to rescue Mono’s soul.
Lining the walls of the shrine are the monstrous idols of sixteen terrifying creature, known as the Colossi, the notoriously massive and dangerous golems made out of a mix of manmade, spiritual, and natural elements. Wander’s task is to destroy these effigies by slaughtering their incarnations across the land. Despite being warned of potentially stark consequences, Wander decides to start his journey immediately.
Though he is armed with just a bow, a sword, a simple leather suit, and his wits, Dormin provides Wander several divine gifts across the Forbidden Lands. For instance, the ruins of small prayer shrines from pilgrimages past are littered throughout the land. Should Wander pay credence to Dormin, they’ll gladly reincarnate him if he dies in battle. Also at these shrines are special lizards imbued with the god’s essence whose characteristically white tails provide Wander marginally higher stamina abilities when consumed. Other beneficial foods in the realm are Forbidden Fruits, peculiar fruits that allow Wander to take more damage in battle when he eats them. Perhaps the most critical gift Wander receives are essences of the Colossi, tendrils of black smoke that suffocates him, yet also grants sizable upgrades to his stamina and health.
With the help of a perplexing god, Wander finally has a chance to bring his love back to life. However, questions remain about the nature of this quest. Could it be the convenient and almost tailor-made deal Dormin cooks up for Wander? What about the Colossi, the gentle giants who vainly try to defend themselves from a tiny threat? How about the demonic essences that both harm and benefit Wander? Perhaps the biggest question is what does this god truly want in return for Wander’s wish?
