This is the longplay of Ninja Gaiden Shadow, action and platform game developed by Natsume and published by Tecmo, released in 1991 for the Game Boy. In Japan this game is called Ninja Ryuukenden GB: Matenrou Kessen (忍者龍剣伝GB 摩天楼決戦) and in Europe it is known as Shadow Warriors. It is a prequel to the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy.

The story of Ninja Gaiden Shadow takes place three years before the first game in the Ninja Gaiden series. In the year 1985, Emperor Gulf suddenly appeared and deaths and destruction began to ensue. Feelings like fear, sadness and despair have taken over New York and it only gives the cruel Emperor Gulf power to make people kneel before him.

Just when everyone had given up all hope of resisting the Gulf Emperor's incomparable strength, a ninja appeared. His name is Ryu Hayabusa and he is the last survivor of the Dragon Clan. Ninja Gaiden Shadow is a story set three years before Ninja Gaiden, when Ryu Hayabusa was still in training and still didn't have full mastery of his abilities.

Even as an apprentice, Ryu has a keen sense of justice and must stop Emperor Gulf's evil plans before it's too late.

Ninja Gaiden Shadow has a little more streamlined gameplay compared to the NES versions, where it features multiple magic attacks and the ability to hang from walls. Here he has the normal sword attack and the fireball attack (Up + B) that can be charged up to five charges. Although he doesn't hang from walls, Ryu can hang from the iron bars of the sets using his hands, in addition to the Grappling Hook (Up + A) to hang from higher places in the set. Our hero can find potions, charge for the fireball and extra lives by destroying containers scattered throughout the stages.

Ninja Gaiden Shadow is a game that has had a discreet development. Rumors said that it would initially be a Game Boy adaptation of the NES game Shadow of The Ninja, but Natsume entered into a deal with Tecmo because it probably wouldn't be able to keep the main attraction of its game, which was the Co-Op. Ninja Gaiden Shadow has an easier level of difficulty than the NES games and serves very well to get to know how the Ninja Gaiden franchise started. Natsume managed to deliver a very good handheld experience.
I hope you enjoy the video.
