[Longplay, No Commentary] Archimedean Dynasty (DOS, 1996) Full Play-through [HD upscale]
Archimedean Dynasty is the progenitor of the Aquanox series of games. It was released in 1996 for DOS. Destruction on the surface of Earth has driven humanity into the depths of the oceans and rebuild a new underwater world, which is then aptly named Aqua. You are a certain "Deadeye" Flint, a life saver, or terminator, depending on your perspective 😉.
I must say I was impressed with this game. If you came from the subsequent Aquanox games, the core game-play should be no stranger to you. However, one major difference is the weapon loadout of your submarine. In the sequels, you can install up to two hull-mounted weapons which are wholly controlled by you, whereas in this game, there is only one hull-mounted weapon, but there can be up to two turret-mounted weapons which can be operated in different ways you set it. This supposedly opens up the tactical options available to players in missions. I can't seem to work things out too well so you will see me using them as extra guns for myself most of the time, but I believe they will do wonders in the hands of good players. Story-telling and pacing were great, except maybe towards the end. The backstory of the world was told through mainly text dialogues and occasional cinematics. Dialogue choices can actually make an impact to the outcome of not only your task at hand, but also the whole game.
This somewhat forces you to play it in a particular way and try to earn all the money you can get, because trust me, you don't want to be caught penniless at some point in late game. Speaking of late game, those wretched Bionts were a serious pain to deal with. Not only were they fast, they soak damage like king *looks at Biont Bombers*. Coupled with persistent bugs like enemies being able to drive through obstacles, they make the treacherous final missions too much of a chore than an enjoyable challenge. But I guess that's the 90s gaming experience.
Still, I would consider it a masterpiece in its genre. I suddenly felt the sequels fell short after playing through this game.
I believe I have showcased all available missions and cinematics in this play-through. I wish I could play this with a joystick, but unfortunately some things are just not meant to be.
This concludes my play-through of the classic Aquanox series of games. Leave a rating and subscribe if you like for more videos in the future. Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!
