Will your legend be one of light… or one of darkness?

The reboot of 2014’s action role-playing game Lords of the Fallen may include post-launch content, but that will depend on the players, according to developer HexWorks. Set in a dark fantasy world after the defeat of the tyrannical god Adry, Lords of the Fallen has a decidedly Soulslike feel, not just in gameplay but in setting. And thanks to the details about the game that have begun to trickle out since its official announcement at Gamescom 2022, many people are already eager to dig in.

In addition to promising 60fps on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, Lords of the Fallen will also offer cross-platform co-op play. Despite that and the game’s very appealing graphics, the minimum PC requirements for Lords of the Fallen are fairly forgiving, meaning that even players without the highest-end setups should be able to enjoy the game. Unlike a few major releases in 2023, the upcoming action RPG will only need about 12 GB of RAM and will support a regular hard drive.

Screenshots and gameplay footage of Lords of the Fallen shared online thus far already have a lot of people interested in potential DLC for the game. In a recent interview with MP1st, head of HexWorks, Saul Gascon, revealed that the studio is planning at least six months of post-launch support, including free updates and improvements. As for more robust post-release content for Lords of the Fallen, Gascon says that will depend on whether the community really wants it. “We have several things in mind,” said the developer, but whether those ideas come to fruition will hinge on player interest.

Lords of the Fallen is a single-player action RPG and, as such, gamers of course shouldn’t expect seasonal content updates like a live-service title would receive. Instead, any post-launch releases would come in the form of DLC like an additional story mission or two, or maybe some new gear. And much like Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which still has no release date six months after its announcement, additional content for these types of games may take a while to hit store shelves.

When the original Lords of the Fallen launched in 2014, it quickly became a sleeper hit. Though it received generally good reviews, it was overshadowed by other releases and didn’t jump into the limelight like its inspirations from the Dark Souls series.
