10,000 years after Illidan's twin brother Malfurion inprisoned him and the Burning Legion is invading... again. Tyrande kills the wardens who were ordered to guard Illidan for all eternity. Thinking that Illidan can help them defeat Archimonde and all the other Demon and undead baddies. Illidan, who wanted nothing other than to prove himself to his people, went spartacus and "slayed them all"

Our favorite prince of Lordaeron, wanting to defeat the Legion so the Scourge could conquer Azeroth themselves talked to Illidan about the Skull of Gul'dan, an artifact of great magical power being held by Tichondrius, one of Archimond's Luietenents. Arthas knew that Illidan would A - be unable to resist such power- and B - was just strong enough to defeat Tichondrius. Of course, Illidan did exactly as Arthas expected and killed Tichondrius, sealing the Burning Legions fate on azeroth. As soon as our favorite demon hunter absorbed the skull, it transformed his body. Illidan was no longer Night Elf, but he wasnt a full on demon either. He had become something MORE.

As soon as Malfurion saw what Illidan had done to himself in a mad bid for power, the druid banished his brother from the forests thinking that Illidan traded his soul for more power. All Illidan had to say about this was, "So be it... brother."
