UPDATE:

So using the cheap optical cable gives you distortion and random disconnects. I was back to using the Audioquest Cherry optical cable, no popping noises within the headset and no random disconnects. Did a test this weekend with streams and it seems like the 8 dollar cable wasn't doing its job. Haven't used the cable in a long time and never experienced this issue until now. Random popping noises too within the headset. As for the Cherry Audioquest cable, it works flawlessly. Yes, it's expensive but no issues at all.
