Welp, there's that 1.6M I mentioned wanting from the last video! (Technically got it in a previous recorded attempt with 1,617,266pts, but I wanted to try and do better. Just 6,000 more, but I'll take it...for now at least.) Also live commentary, because I felt like doing so (even if it was hard to play and talk at the same time, plus my clicky USB SNES controllerrr). Actually dunno if I wanna do intro + outro shenanigans like in my Plays and Looks At videos, but I did it here, so meep.
Still glad with how I handled the beginning of the run, it's not a written rule to go for all clears/single color bonuses on Shinin and I need to think about the pace of Basic Challenge runs score-wise a little more (*especially* after being like "hmmm, maybe I could get 1.7M this run"), but it seemed to pay off. Also should be a bit more careful with the downtime from a broken combo to a new combo, sometimes I made squares but it wasn't enough for a combo, thus lowering the amount of time I had on a skin.
Speaking of how skin transitions work, it's based on the amount of squares you make. Each skin has its own quota to reach and when you reach that quota, you level up (shown on the right). You transition into a new skin every 4 level ups you preform on the first 16 skins, then every 5 level ups you preform on the last 8. The thing with the quota though, is that you can surpass it on a timeline sweep and level up, but any excess squares don't count for the next level up requirement, which is good because it means more points. So if the quota was 30 squares and you were at 29, you could make say, 6 squares to surpass the quota and those extra 5 were squeezed out for more points. However, if you made only 1 square in that scenario, you'd reach the quota exactly, level up, and lose out on points you could've gotten, with extra that's why I got concerned later on in the run when I made squares but didn't combo.
Anyway, I'll probably only post another run if I either get 1.7M or some other significant PB, meeeeeeep.
