While there are few little niggles here and there, overall, the 2022 iPad Pro M2 is BEAST when it comes to gaming.

In this video I'm playing Apex Legends Mobile at its highest quality settings. Actually, technically the Original setting is the highest graphics settings but this only plays at 30 FPS. So for this test of the graphics I set Graphics Quality to ExtremeHD and Frame Rate to Ultra. All other graphics settings such as Anti-aliasing, Bloom, Dynamic Shadows etc. Were all switched on.

Oddly enough, and one of the niggles, you can't select Original on the M2 iPad Pro, although, you can on the iPad 10th Gen. Go figure?

I'm also using a 4K UHD HDMI output from the iPad Pro M2 and the recording and upload were also in 4K.

The maximum frame rate over HDMI for the M2 iPad Pro is 60 frames per second and it held 60 FPS all through the game, as you can see from the on screen FPS counter. In fact, if 60 FPS wasn't a restriction over HDMI from the M2 iPad Pro, I suspect that it would peak much higher.

Here's my iPad Pro gaming setup for playing on an external monitor. This basically turns your iPad Pro, or other USB C enabled iPads, in to a game console. I call this console mode.

You don't need all the stuff I use, just the USB C hub and game controller are enough to get you playing in console mode on an external monitor or TV. The USB C hub will give you HDMI and Ethernet connections. For an iPad Pro this basically turns it in to a 4K 60 FPS gaming console.

While I'm now using the iPad Pro M2, the iPad Pro M1 and iPad Pro 2020 are just as good and are actually better than the M2 with certain functions on certain games. I've not used the 2018 iPad Pro but I'm going to imagine that it will also be great for gaming to an eternal monitor.

Basically, just replace my choice of iPad Pro for your own choice, even the other iPads with USB C will work, such as the iPad Mini 6th Gen, some of the Airs and the new iPad 10th Gen but these won't do 4K except for an M1 Air or any future iPad with an M processor.
