In an attempt to do something different for my pops birthday this time around due to budget constraints I decided to do things old school again and hand make a gift. In my childhood years we did quite a bit of figure hunting and collecting. Now armed with a 3D printer I can do the figure making on my own. Collectible things that do not exist such as toys and figurines can now become reality thanks to 3D printer prototyping - no need for clay sculpt baking and mass production style molding. Taking a theme from one of his favorite ACC College Football teams I have re-made a college era version of dad suited up for the big game set on the University of Virginia's home turf.

Check out my Art Station post for pictures of the creation process from start to finish:

The long and sort of it; pinched for time due to work I was able to remix an existing football player STL file, create a unique head sculpt based on old family photos, down to the wire kick out some solid clean prints all on the first try with my Ender 3 V2 extruder type printer i matte black PLA, do some quick and rough final polish and lame quality spray primer (there are still layer lines as I am still learning the ropes), and wrap up with an acrylic paint job to try and best capture the realism of a collectible figure while not trying to mess up most of the print details. All articulate and removable parts are held in place by tiny neodymium/iridium magnets which allow for a tiny range of motion and posing. All in all the project took a grand total of 5 days plus packaging print creation and a photoshoot.
