Early Access UE 5.0 - Stardust Speedway Scene Startup
Made this short video as a general FYI. I have had a few CG 3D Game are friends run into issue about how long the new Unreal Engine 5 takes to open. I am demonstrating here that on my particular build, RTX 3060 12GB GPU with 64GB of RAM on an older i7 Skylake CPU, even Early Access Unreal Engine 5.0 (which we can assume is heavier and less efficient) takes only 2 minutes to open even a relatively large scene. If you are experiencing long wait times on the first time opening the engine yes this is normal. When first installed or updated it took mine about 2-3 hours to compile shaders even on the empty brand new starter pack blank project file and scene.
If you are planning to dabble in Unreal Engine 5.0 please just fire up a blank scene and let it run for abou 2-3 hours. If you are trying to convert an older scene to 5.0 please note that the shader compiling may take even longer AND not all things from 4.2X era are available or enabled in 5.0 especially since the particle system changed completely. Legacy is not always supported and may create an unstable or broken scene. Copy your project as a backup before converting any older scene.
Yes my scene is very heavy and not optimized, Im aware lol. I'll work to do lighter stuff in the future - right now it's all about look dev and feel, not performance as I am not creating a game just real time scenes for next gen renders.
