Like the Puyo Puyo franchise, there's chain reaction feature in Magical Drop series but the difference is that the main connection for tile elimination starts with a column of at least 3 tiles with other adjacent tiles of the same type connected to them in any shape. Unlike Puyo Puyo franchise, however, there can be more than 1 chain reaction in Magical Drop series.

By the way, the localized version of Magical Drop 1 to 3 doesn't have proper voice acting and character conversation.
