Game Start Story
I will be uploading at least two other Maken X videos; One being a game sample and the other going more in-depth with the story after the practice stage, which explains the god-like abilities of Machina (or Maken), the artificial life that controls people through brainjacking.
Here's a little about how I feel about the game:
Maken X is certainly a strange one, but probably not as strange as more prominent Atlus games, specifically the Megami Tensei series, which is where this game draws a lot of its style from. Interestingly enough, while the gameplay itself is fairly standard and original, the visuals are pretty comparable to some of Atlus' modern games, which is very impressive when you consider the game came out before the turn of the millenium. The game often runs at 60fps (you can see this better in the gameplay sample of course) and the environments are pretty varied. It lacks several naunces in the visual department compared to some of Atlus' newer work, but it looked very impressive for the time and for the Dreamcast.
This game also had a revised release for the PS2 by the name of Maken Shao. It had a third-person perspective rather than a first-person when fighting and additional features, but I kinda felt that it took some of the originality away from the original.
I will talk more about the gameplay in the gameplay video. Enjoy.
