Full explanation at the end.

Arknights this week. An interesting game in a lot of ways, but maybe the easiest to convey in under a minute would be the way auto mode works. If you’re familiar with gacha games, you probably know auto mode can be kinda boring, more often than not just a way to make grinding/farming easier. And it does still serve that purpose in AK. But it does so in an interesting way that made considering the mode an actually enjoyable aspect of the game, rather than purely a means to an end.

Other games also have interesting takes on auto here and there, and maybe I’ll do another video on them in the future as well.

(SIDE NOTE: If you can think of examples of games that do something interesting with auto, please let me know. Always fun to see new twists on game design, and I’m certain my current list is not comprehensive.)

Anyway, that’ll do it for this week. Have a good one, folks.

Full explanation (AKA, a glimpse into the Rube Goldberg Machine that is Arknights):

The flagbearer enemy is passive until attacked, but once you do so it activates all present enemies while buffing their Atk and Def. So you really want to save them for last here.

Fartooth, the sniper, gains some attack range on her first promotion, which expands the range to the flagbearer.

And that might not be terrible if she targeted the big guys first, but her trait dictates that she always targets the enemy with the lowest defense first. Which, of course, the little support units are more fragile than the bruisers.

So by upgrading just one unit, everything comes crashing down.
