A man has been jailed for eight years for the killing of an 18-year-old British soldier in Cyprus.

Fusilier David Collins, from 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was less than 24 hours away from flying out to Afghanistan when he went to a nightclub in an area out-of-bounds to military personnel in Ayia Napa last November.

In the early hours of the morning there was a brawl involving three UK holidaymakers, during which Fusilier Collins was stabbed to death.

Mohammed Abdulkadir Osman, 20, originally from Somalia but believed to have been living in London, admitted manslaughter at a court hearing in Larnaca on 22nd April and returned for sentencing today.

Two other UK teenagers were acquitted of all charges.
