Manipulating a ₽ (0xF9) to evolve into a stable Pikachu with Surf (no ACE method) (Pokémon Yellow)
Notes: I found a new novel non-ACE method of teaching Pikachu Surf and having it be stable/usable for the Pikachu's Beach minigame (unlike the Pokémon merge glitch alone which targets species byte 1 and usually reverts based on species byte 2).
This works because the level-up and evolution data for ₽ (0xF9) is taken from 9A20 in VRAM; which conveniently is at the bottom of the screen. Hence, we can manipulate a map to control the evolution (see https://glitchcity.wiki/Arbitrary_learnset/evolution_glitch_Pok%C3%A9mon ) however, since the game is accessing VRAM directly there is a small luck element where the game may fail to read the data (parts are partially read as FF when VRAM is locked). You can work around this by continuing to use Rare Candies, resetting if you get the wrong evolution.
