I merged the backyard level with the castle grounds. The DS had no issues handling this (once I figured out how to fix some texture glitch issues I encountered while reimporting the mesh).

The vertex coloring was a quick experimental test to see how well 3DS Max's radiosity light rendering would fare once baked into the vertex color channel.

There's a few issues like some areas being darker then they should, but I'd choose this over lighting the map from scratch vertex by vertex. (this game engine doesn't support lightmap textures like more modern games do. Lighting is done entirely via vertex colors)

Much better then flat shading you'd be stuck with otherwise. I don't think any mod for this game actively uses vertex coloring in any way (at least none of the preview vids and screenshots appear to make any use of them), so if I could get off my lazy bum and make a mod for this game, I could lightmap the **** out of everything I do and really make it stand out from the others. :P

The low native resolution of the DS is crap if shown on a modern computer screen, so I used a modified version of DeSmuME with a hacked 3D renderer that enables up to 4x internal resolution over normal. Official dev team needs to work on perfecting this. ;)

DS games look a ton better in higher resolution. No, that stretched up-scaling stuff the DS emulators currently do is crap.

True internal resolution changes produce radically better results as can be seen with Dolphin and other emulators like the N64 emulators.

This isn't the best game to showcase this, but nonetheless chose this over uploading a video that would just show a magnified pixellated mess. DS has been out since like 2008 or so? All this time and we still don't have a fully polished emulator for this console that works as well as Dolphin... :(
