A fan suggested I should play "Mario Forever Galaxy" on Danny's Game Vault, so here it is. In this game, Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach again, but this time instead of rescuing her with their bare hands, Mario and his friends hop aboard space shuttles to go after Bowser ! That being said, the game is an auto-scrolling vertical shooter. It also has a map system, like "Super Mario Bros. 3" and "Super Mario World". I must say, it's a pretty innovative concept for a Mario game - while most Mario fan games I've shown on this channel are side-scrolling platformers, this one brings something new to the table. I never thought I'd see Mario and the gang as pilots ! That's right: it's worth mentioning you don't have to play as Mario - you can select between Mario, Luigi, Toad and even Samus ! Yes, that's right, Samus from Metroid ! Your ship starts off pretty weak and without much firepower, but you can upgrade it throughout the game, as you collect coins and visit the weapon shops that show up on the map screen. You can't change the character once you select it, but it doesn't make much difference who you choose, because they can all be upgraded equally. For this walkthrough I chose to play as Toad (here called Kinopio, his original japanese name) because he's my favourite Mario character. You fly around shooting Bowser's usual minions, like goombas, koopa-troopas, hammer bros and spinies. Some of them are stronger and take multiple shots to kill, depending on the power of your guns. Contact with them doesn't kill you instantly, but drains your "hull" meter, displayed in the bottom right corner, which also acts as your life meter. When it runs out you lose a life - you start off with 3 which is the maximum you can have. Once you lose all 3 lives, you restart from the beginning of the level you died on, but only with 1 or 2 lives depending on the character. Extra lives can be purchased at the store if you have enough money, but you can't hold more than 3, like I said. When you kill enemies, they sometimes drop coins, gems and even stars, mushrooms or fire-flowers - yes, the three powerups from the original Mario make a comeback, although they perform differently: the mushroom restores some of your armor, so it refills the hull meter; the flower lets you shoot homing missiles until the flower in the bottom right depletes and the starman surrounds your ship with a ring of fire for a brief moment, destroying everything it comes in contact with. Be careful though, because one thing that sucks is that the ring won't follow your ship - it just stays where you initially grabbed the star, so if you fly outside the ring you'll be exposed to hazards. You can fire your ship's guns continuously by holding down the fire button, but they overheat after a while and you must let them cool down before you can fire again. The temperature of the guns is shown in the top right of the screen as a red bar - when it fills up, the guns no longer work until they cool down to a usable level, so don't fire when there's nothing on screen, or you could find yourself not being able to shoot when you really need it ! Like all the other Softendo games, this one also has good graphics and awesome soundtracks. Overall, the game is pretty fun and easy to play - it definitely gets the Danny's Game Vault seal of approval ! Try it out !
