Tour Athens Drift 0:00
Starting off with another tour City track, although this one feels very different to all the others we've had so far. Whether that is because it is based on an ancient city, or there is just something about the design that is different? Either or, I definitely like it more. The music is also fairly interesting. Not something that personally sounds Greek to me, but still unique in its own right.

GCN Daisy Cruiser 2:33
I feel like this is one of the more anticipated tracks to have back, even though to me it admittedly doesn't stand out that much, for some reason. Having only revisited Mario Kart 7 a few days ago, I appreciate that it isn't too dissimilar to the MK7 version. The only section that feels a bit off to me is the final third of the track.

Wii Moonview Highway 4:55
This is the track that I've been looking forward to most in wave 5. I have thought Moonview would be good in Mario Kart 8 ever since the Wii U release, and I certainly wasn't disappointed! Even the iconic bomb cars made a return, which I honestly thought would be left out. However, Bradley informed me that the boost panel locations change each race, which I feel might sometimes prevent the track from having the same flow it had in Wii. The track has sadly also fallen victim to being scaled a little too big, though it is certainly not the worst.

Squeaky Clean Sprint 7:32
Desktop Dash anyone? As much as I don't like GBA Ribbon Road as a remake, the miniature toy ascetic is something I feel can be touched on more in this game. This track strives for that, and pretty creatively too. Though I must ask, why a bathroom? I can't help but overthink what you're actually driving on as soon as you go down the plug hole. and I'm pretty sure I said "eww" out loud when I saw the water spraying out of the toilet. 🤣 The section after that I found a little tricky to grasp, and I don't know why.

Tour Los Angeles Laps 10:36
I actually only realised that this was a section track when looking back at the recording. This track definitely has my favourite soundtrack in wave 5, and possibly out of all the Tour City tracks so far! and although I have never touched the game, the design does remind me a little bit of GTA. However, Like I keep saying pretty much every update, the tour City tracks don't feel like they really work in deluxe.

GBA Sunset Wilds 13:17
I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about this track. A lot of the OG super circuit players seem to dislike it, because such a key design aspect was left out that arguably ruins it being named “Sunset” Wilds in the forest place. Nil informed me that in the original, the sun used to set and the colour of the sky changed. I must agree this feature is a massive loss not to be included in Deluxe. But having still never played super circuit, I can’t really say anymore then that. Looking past that though, Nintendo have continued to stick with GBA recreations that stay true to the originals, which I like.

Wii Koopa Cape 15:52
Never thought we’d be getting both the best and worst Wii tracks in Deluxe in this wave, but alas here we are. As you can probably tell by my previous comments on Moonview, this track is the latter of the two. No idea what or how they managed to, but this version of the track feels more uncomfortable to drive than the MK7 version. And don’t get me started on the texturing! 🤮

Tour Vancouver Velocity 19:00
Can’t say too much about this track in comparison to the real Vancouver, having not been there myself. To me, it just seems like a strange mix of Merry Mountain and Singapore Speedway. So I asked my Canadian friend, Legzz. Who said (and I quote)... "Irl Vancouver looks nothing like this hahaha" "They did hit a couple landmarks though, that big blue structure…is the Olympic torch thingy they built for the 2010 Olympics. The Capilano suspension bridge is in there and I imagine the snowy bit is like... Whistler or something?" "I guess the city part generally looks like downtown Vancouver but it's kind of just... A city". As per usual the same thing that I say about every tour City track also goes for this one.
