It's been fifteen years since Mario Kart Wii was released in Japan. This entry in the Mario Kart series introduced bikes, sixteen new courses, and is the first console Mario Kart game to support online play.

The legacy this game left behind is huge. Thanks to Wiimmfi and a bunch of others in the homebrew community, people are able to play Mario Kart Wii online after GameSpy shut down Nintendo's WFC servers in 2014. There is also a huge modding community behind the game, with custom characters, custom tracks, and even custom music being available for the game.
