Mark of the Ninja is a 2012 stealth video game originally released for the XBOX 360 (summer of arcades) by Klei Entertainment, makers of Shank, Don't Starve, Invisible, Inc. and many more in the following years (their latest work, Griftlands, is in early access on Steam at the moment), all with their distinctive art style, inspired by traditionally animated cartoons, but without sugar-coating the violence.
The protagonist, simply called Ninja or the Marked One, has special abilities granted by the power of japanese tattoos by master Dosan using a flower called Sumi: between dream and reality, between realism and fantasy, the traditional Ninjas fight against the Hessian Services, a security company using the latest gadgets money can buy, when their leader Count Karajan doesn't spend the cash on less useful stuff.
With the help of Ora and useful circles indicating noise waves and points the alarmed guards are investigating, the Ninja must avoid Tripwires, Lasers, Motion Sensors and much more, while choosing between an almost pacifist ghost run or a number of entertaining take-downs, with plenty of gadgets for both playstyles. A detailed soundscape completes the presentation, music layered on top of the ambient tracks, guards talking to each other and themselves and of course Ora's advice following the Ninja at every step.
The Special Edition includes developer commentary and a new long level called A Tale from the Past, set 50 years before the events of Mark of the Ninja and following a young Dosan in Tabriz. This DLC is included in Mark of the Ninja Remastered.
