Mass Effect 2 - Engidendum - Engineer Build
TLME2SG - Building the Engineer

I have made disclaimers about building characters before, but this guy gets the biggest. Engineer is probably the class that can get away with the widest variety of builds without losing efficiency, and works well with more bonus powers than just about anybody. The secret is likely the rapid cooldown on Combat Drone.
In any case, the two build paths I show are a guide for relatively pure vanilla engineers from damage and control schools. If you end up building around Reave, Energy Drain or some other bonus power, the best build order might be completely different.
I also didn't explain the drone attack damage very well. From Rank 1-3 it can do pitiful shield damage. Attack drone allows it to do damage to armor, barriers and health as well. How long it lasts determines the damage, obviously. Explosive is better if it is getting killed rapidly to proc its AOE stun and a bit of shield damage. If the drone lasts more than 6 seconds or so, Attack is superior (in simple damage) against one target, 12s against 2 shielded targets, etc. Vs the standard elites you encounter on most missions, Attack locks them down a bit better. Scions can potentially kill the drone right after cast, but often will miss due to oddities with the geometry of their attacks. Some of the highest tier enemies will ignore drone outright.
For something completely different, search for RedCaesar97's "Pupper Master Engineer," which took Dominate as the bonus.
