As a slight bonus, I decided to tack on a little extra segment to today's upload queue. Don't get too excited, though, because the duration is about as short a video I've ever tossed onto the series of tubes.

Actually, I've no doubt that I'll have way more words in the description than the video's series of pictures are themselves worth, since... this is a pretty random-seeming segment. Part of this is because the whole game up to now has been for the most part representative of a typical (albeit bite-sized) Wily caper. Sic some robots on Mega Man, kick back at the castle, and let whatever happens play out as best he can hope. Maybe this'll be the time he takes out that pesky blue blunderer!

Well, the plot behind the scenes is apparently a bit more than that, not that you'd know based on the game itself... and would eventually be severely confused by some of the turns it happens to take.

Anyway, the story as it goes is that Wily had apparently started this whole set in the ongoing game of cat and mouse by stealing a prototype time machine called the Time Skimmer from the Chronos Institute (note if you care that these proper nouns were invented by the American instruction manual exposition, they were merely left unnamed prior to that)... but the catch to the Time Skimmer was that it could only travel forwards in time and back to its moment of initial departure. So Wily decided to check out the future where SURELY he would have eventually succeeded in taking over the world--it only takes one success in such a fashion, after all... he's obviously just been playing the long odds his whole career!

"Unfortuantely," the future is sickeningly peaceful to the point that even Mega Man has been able to find peace and Wily found his future self apparently in need of persuasion to undertake some nefarious deeds once again. So Wily managed to capture the disarmed and relatively complacent Mega Man of the era and repurposed him as a fighting robot renamed "Quint"... I mean, if Mega Man can foil all his schemes, who could be better to have on his side?

Holy sci-fi shenanigans! That's almost as nutty as the suggestion that Wily is some kind of flying alien that's retreated underground into a dark room that can only be damaged by bubble moisture! ... ... ...wait...what?

Quint

So anyway, Mega Man is pretty much unbeatable and foils Wily's schemes every single time... so where's the flaw in this plan of using a bona fide Mega Man of his own to combat the original? Well... one word: Sakugarne.

Mega Man's unlimited combat potential comes from his variable weapons systems that he can use to seriously gimp his opponents' chances for success... this future Mega Man has... a jackhammer pogo stick thing called Sakugarne. Great. So yeah, I don't think I even need to explain how this plan of Wily's goes awry.

If you were in need of it, Quint has his weakness to the Hard Knuckle. (Hey! A flying metal knuckle to the face hurts! I don't care who you are!)

Beating Quint will net you the "privilege" of using the Sakugarne yourself. Excuse me if I choose to contain my jubilation at this unexpected turn of events.
