"Mega Man" for the NES is a classic action-platformer developed and published by Capcom in 1987. You run, jump and climb ladders like many other platforming games, but the player can choose in which order to defeat the evil robots. Mega Man also absorbs the signature abilities of his defeated foes. The game spawned five sequels for the NES, and numerous titles for other platforms as well.

Dr. Wily, a mad scientist, seeks world domination by reprogramming six powerful robots to do his evil bidding. Witnessing his creations wreak havoc, Dr. Light, the inventor, is shocked and transforms his housekeeping robot Rock into the mighty Mega Man. The new hero then sets off on his quest to defeat the robots that turned bad, then track down and bring Dr. Wily to justice.

The game is very difficult, the hardest of the six original Mega Man titles for the NES, with bosses able to take you out in a few hits and unforgiving level design. Also, there's no password system, and no energy tanks to be obtained for use in emergency situations. Since the bosses have weak points against certain absorbed abilities, finding the right order in which to defeat the bosses becomes an important element.

"Mega Man" is a superb game and an undeniable classic, even if it isn't as refined or as balanced as many of its sequels. It has seen a number of rereleases and remakes over the years, but the original still hold up perfectly well. Despite not achieving significant commercial success upon its initial release, the game's innovative design and gameplay paved way for a highly successful franchise.
