Mega Man X8! Back To It's Roots But Too Little Too Late - PlayStation 2 (Part 2 of 2)
This is the final entry in the Mega Man X series. This time Capcom went back to basics with a more old school approach using 3D graphics. Luckily Mega Man is actually playable at the start this time lol. You can still hot swap between characters like in X7 but now they added team attacks and an interesting life recovery mechanic encouraging you to swap back and forth mid fight. The controls feel tight and responsive and the game starts off very strong. The annoying back seat characters now have voice dialogue and you can choose between 3 at the start of each mission for hints on bosses, secrets and overall combat tips. The shop returns as well which I'm very happy about however on the hardest difficulty being forced to purchase "retry chips" was unnecessarily annoying. The main downside to the game is there are too many levels trying to do something "different" such as racing or weird chase sequences. I feel DKC 3 had this same issue as well. Overall I think this game is really good and surprised the series didn't continue from this point. Maybe it was just too little too late and X7 did too much damage to it's reputation. This is part 2 of our playthrough.
