Castlevania Lament of Innocence! Devil May Cry With A Whip - PS2 (Part 2 of 2)
We have been playing the Castlevania series for awhile now. This time we get to see how it handles the PlayStation 2. The gameplay is more "action oriented", allowing you to perform long combos and even launching the enemies into the air for a follow up. It's very obvious the developers were fans of Devil May Cry. You can also modify your sub weapons with different elements changing it's properties and power. The cutscenes are long with plenty of voice acting and the story is actually pretty cool, especially since we have more graphical power with the PS2. There are unfortunately a lot of issues though from a design perspective. There is a massive amount of backtracking, you have a central hub and can start wherever you want but you collect keys for the other areas. The map design is horrible. Almost all the sections are square rooms and long hallways that get very boring fast. The game makes it a pain in the ass because you can only warp to your last save area or back outside the castle making you waste a ton of time just running around. The upgrades themselves feel too far apart and don't change the gameplay too much to keep you invested in searching for more. I respect the attempt to change it up but this is more of a template. This is part 2 of our playthrough.
