Metal Gear 1 (MSX2, 2023 Ver.): Part 2: Imprisoned with Gray Fox
Saves are awkward in this game.
You can save at any time, but it only really works at certain spots, such as elevator rooms or outdoor area between buildings. If you try to save outside of those spots and then load it up, it will dial your progress back to that exact time you entered into that spot in the game.
So like... if you go into an elevator room with no Rations, leave the elevator room, get a 1 Ration, save then reload before re-entering the room, you're gonna be back in that room with no Rations again. Likewise, if you save AFTER re-entering the room, your reload will have that 1 Ration you picked up.
----------
There are three main buildings in this game, and I am currently in Building 1.
Building 1 has five floors. From top to bottom: Roof, 3F, 2F, 1F, & Basement. At the start of this video, I go from 3F to 2F.
One of these rooms have an Ammo pickup, which will restock more than one of your weapons' Ammo. You can keep going in an out of a room and the Ammo will ALWAYS respawn.
On this same floor are infared lasers. If they touch you, they trigger an alert. For one way you can see them, (I can't believe I'm saying this) use the cigarettes.
----------
To continue through the story, you need to go explore Building 1's 1F.
One hostage will say that Gray Fox, another member of FOXHOUND, was also captured, and hs now been put into a special cell. Another hostage will say that the only way into this cell is to get caught.
Eventually that is EXACTLY what ends up happening to Snake. Make your way into a seemingly-empty room at 5:37 and...
Snake gets caught!
Also, after saving that second hostage, my Class goes up to Level 2, slightly increasing my max health and item & weapon capacity.
----------
Snake ends up being a prisoner in Building 1's Basement. All of his weapons and equipment are also gone!
Big Boss calls in on Snake and tells him to check the prison walls in order to find his way towards Gray Fox.
Punching walls will make a sound, but some walls will have a different sound that also makes Snake go "?". When this happens, you either need to blow up the wall with a Plastic Explosive, or just keep punching it until it gives way.
In this case, you just keep punching some walls to make you way through, and eventually reach Gray Fox.
----------
Gray Fox warns Snake of Metal Gear's destructive power and why it's a serious endeavor of why its completion must be stopped.
The only one who knows how to stop Metal Gear is its creator: Dr. Drago Pettrovich Madnar. Snake needs to find Dr. Madnar somewhere else within Building 1.
----------
Bust yourself out of Gray Fox's cell and figure your way out of the Basement back towards the elevator.
On your way out, though, you encounter the first boss of the game: Shotmaker! He makes shots at you!
Punch the bottom-center door to reach a room that has all of Snake's missing items and weapons. Pick it up, but beware of a Transmitter that will help enemy's find Snake within their rooms and GET RID OF IT!
Shotmaker uses a shotgun, which is why his shots are so widespread when they fly at you.
The quickest way to deal with him is to tank some shots, run up to him, and just blow his brains out from the side.
Unlock the other door with a Level 2 Card, and you'll reach the Level 3 Card that you'll need to get out of Shotmaker's room and explore more of the Building 1 Basement.
----------
Watch out for guard dogs! They can only be killed by shooting them!
Most breakable walls can only destroyed with Plastic Explosives. This has let me reach a Bomb Blast Suit and an Enemy Uniform. I'll need those later.
----------
Back in 2F, with the Level 3 Card, I save another hostage that will state that Dr. Madnar is somewhere within Building 1's Inner Courtyard.
In another room, you'll fight Machinegun Kid along long walls. Same as Shotmaker, I just rush him down with close-up bullets. Beating him will allow me to reach a Parachute. I need that to reach the Inner Courtyard.
I travel around through floors to see what need rooms I can reach with the Level 3 Card. I eventually rest at an elevator room before planning to head to the Roof.
