There has always been a misconception for pretty much the entire games existence, that it's not possible to IBJ in Metroid NES. This just simply isn't true. You CAN IBJ in Metroid 1. It's just... absurdly hard. Significantly harder than any other 2D Metroid game. It's so hard it's border line TAS only (and this video is a tas don't get me wrong), but it is possible.

The longest unassisted chain I've ever gotten was about 8 or 9 bomb jumps in a row, which is likely a record. I feel a 15 or 20 chain is humanly viable, but beyond that... I'm not sure a human can really keep up with the near frame perfect inputs required to keep the chain going. It seems to be 3 frame window for every bomb placed.

The key to actually achieving a long chain is by holding B, and mashing down in a very particular FAST FAST, SLOW SLOW rhythm . As you can see from the inputs... it's basically a sine wave.

A Metronome or lua script could probably be made/used in assisting humans on when to hold B and when to mash down.

If you wanna give it a shot and see how high of a chain you can get, boot up your copy of M1 and give it a go.
