The Dark Beam is one of, if not the most over-powered combat weapon in the game. It's charged attack can freeze lots of enemies, allowing players to instant kill them with a Missile afterwards. Dark Beam is also one of the few tools that can activate Portals to reach Dark Aether.

Using out of bounds and some even more game-breaking glitches, it's possible to collect every item in the game without having to collect Dark Beam. Thus the percentage on the Mission Final screen after the Credits is 99%.
