2,462The long-awaited new DesTicY solo is finally here. Needless to say, it was absolutely worth the wait. He said he wanted to finish it in time for the 2.1 Awards, but was glad he didn't rush it, and so am I. There is also another chance at the 2020 Awards. DesTicY has been a master of design for years now, and when he combines it with a theme and art, this is the result. Visually, this is a masterpiece to me. I can't say I find the gameplay to be as fun as I wish it would be. There are some awkward timings here and there, and some orbs and jumps you need to memorize with all the vertical camera movement. The custom gamemode at 0:46, which works just like that one part in Press Start using the 2.2 editor, actually plays quite well. I'd expect it to be a bit more buggy. There's no doubt that this will get an Epic rating, and it will most likely be Medium Demon.
- OVERALL COIN RATING -
Gold. 3/4. The only coin in the level is definitely harder than the normal route. It's really obvious how you get it, but the theming of it makes up for it.
- 1st coin: Gold. At 1:05, you need to avoid touching the green platforms at the bottom, right after the Ball portal. To avoid them, you can either jump into the portal or go up really fast like I did. If you touch any of them, spikes will be enabled and block the path for the key. It is a bit difficult to get it down. This key makes the crane blink green lights while moving up, allowing you to reach the yellow orb at 1:08 if you jump very late. For the normal route, you have no chance of reaching it as the crane is lower down, making you fall down and play some different gameplay. The coin is received at 1:11. Getting here is clearly harder than the normal route, and while it's obvious where you get the key and where it takes you, the execution here is great, from the green platforms to the crane moving and blinking. The coin fits the level's theme perfectly, which is something I'd love to see more people do.
