Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Part 58: The Beginning of the End
So, after finally getting all the WarChiefs as well as finishing all the challenges, we can finally finish the game. *Note: There will be spoilers in the description about the events from the video* We start the last stretch of the game by talking to the Queen and her daughter one last time before heading out to go and face the last two servant of Sauron. Once we land, we are supposed to have an epic fight scene in front of the Orc’s base where we battle our “nemesis” (that is what the game calls the character) but I can’t remember ever fighting Khrosh the Skinless (if I have a just forgot about it, you can totally call me out on it but I Do not remember fighting this guy). I’ve already complained a little on the Nemesis System on a previous video description so I won’t dive too deep and complain about how I don’t remember ever having beef with this Orc (or how he could be considered my Nemesis when Tumug the Dumb literally came back from the dead to try and fight me again). What I will complain about is the boss fight we have with the Tower of Sauron, if you could call it that. From what I can guess, I assume they were trying to have a cool scene in which he messes with our minds and tries to trick us but the entire “fight” feels so empty and almost pointless. After talking to him, he then disappears and we have to track down the right one and stealth drain him. I assume that the other images of himself are fakes but I didn’t have any trouble finding the right one; I was three for three on my predictions and I can’t tell if I Was lucky or if there wasn’t any variety. The other images aside, can we talk about how a super-powered person like the Tower, who is supposed to be one of the big three enemies in the game, gets killed by three stealth drains and a quick-time-event (I’ll being using that term a lot so, in case you didn’t know, it’s abbreviated as QTE). The fact that such a high ranking boss can die extremely easily is not only concerning for the state of Sauron’s army, but is really disappointing to find out as a player. If the Tower’s specialty is messing with your mind, could you imagine the possibilities that you could do with his fight scene? You could have the entire environment warp out of control or have Talion fight illusions of his son or even try and mess with his mind, like have him believe that he died and is now at peace with his wife and Celebrimbor has to try and tell him that it’s all a trick. You could give the player the choice to stay with the mirage or get back into the fight (or do what they did in Batman with the Catwoman’s decision where there is only one right answer and the game will rewind so you can make the correct choice). I guess I was hoping for something a little better than just stealth branding a target and hitting a few buttons.
