So, as with the end of every game that I record, it means that I will have to talk about my final thoughts on the game as a whole which, if you somehow find your way onto this video without watching anything else, there will be some spoilers. So, overall I thought it was a fairly fun Ratchet and Clank game that had very familiar mechanics which made it easier to jump into. I’m very interested in this new series (that Being the “Future” series) and I’m wondering where they’ll take the story as well as the mechanics. Since Clank was whisked away right at the end of the game, it more than likely means that we won’t be in the next game or, at the very least, we’ll spend a bit of the game just playing as Ratchet. There have been a few times over the course of the four games that Clank wasn’t on our backs but they are generally short missions. It’ll be interesting to see if we somehow stumble on Clank early on or if he’ll be in the game at all (I’m assuming he but how we are going to regroup after he gets carried off like that will be very interesting). Continuing on, I want to mention the oversaturation of SIXAXIS stuff in the game; I didn’t think it was a bad idea in a few places but it does feel forced in some sections such as the hacking. The flying and freefalling sections were pretty cool to have the SIXAXIS in but outside of that, it felt weird to have to rely on moving the entire controller, especially for the hacking sections. I’ve talked a bit of my dislike for the hacking over the course of a few videos so I’ll try not to ramble on about it; to sum it up, it felt clunky and a little forced in there. The weapons are very familiar from the previous games with some very nice additions (like the claws; it’s cool to see different melee weapons outside of the Ratchet). Still would love if they added the PDA in every game instead of every odd-numbered game but that is just me. The story was really interesting but I felt like the ending was just there so that they could have a sequel to explain more of what’s going on; the previous games were sort of disjointed events that you didn’t really need to play the previous games in order to understand them but it feels like I will have to play all the games in the series to understand who the Zoni are. I don’t really hate that they are trying to have a continuing storyline, I just feel like it was a very anti-climactic ending just to have a cliff-hanger (It’s like “Hey guys, you won the day and defeated the bad-guy but your friend gets kidnapped and you can’t do anything about it, see you in the next game”). I will mention that the boss fight at the game was a very tough one (not sure if that’s just me because I always have trouble killing the last boss in every game in the series so far) so I thought we would have nice ending and wasn’t really expecting it to end on the cliff hanger that it did. Overall, I think that this is a nice addition to the Ratchet and Clank series with some solid shooting mechanics and an interested storyline.
