Ahh... Peposoft. They are a good Doujin group that parodies other games and adds their own personal touches in the process. They started out with modest, entertaining games like Houkaimura (Makaimura Parody) and Neko Shounen Bouken Ki, then later surprised the Doujin community with their Megaman X Parody, GIGADEEP, and now they've gone on to expand on their platforming/adventure skills in their latest game, "Miku Monogatari: Yume to Taisetsu na Mono" or "Miku Story: Dreams and Important Things". Given Peposoft's appreciation of Shigeru Miyamoto and love for the Super Famicom / Nintendo and classic franchises like Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and others, it's little wonder that Peposoft constantly gives nods to games of yesteryear.

The game is a mixture of "Yoshi's Story" with its visual elements and "Castlevania" with its character traits and sub-weapon system, and features four playable Vocaloid characters: Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka (in "Tako Luka / Octopus Luka" form), and Kagamine Rin and Len. The game has adjustable difficulty and supports two-player simultaneous action. The object of the game is simple: Miku wakes up one day and magically gets sucked into her favorite book, entering a dream-like world full of wacky characters and figments of her own complex imagination. She soon finds out that the book has also been invaded by nightmares and she now has to escape by defeating them and reaching the end of the book.

Each character has a different main weapon, but all utilize the same sub-weapons and have the same basic abilities (movement/jump speed, etc.). To the game's credit, there are quite a few sub-weapons to use (that are as weird as the game itself, ranging from music notes to poison mushrooms to roaches) and characters handle pretty well, though getting precise, fine control can prove difficult. Characters lose HP when hit and when HP reaches 0, you fall in a pit, or time runs out, you lose a life. The game features several worlds and a variety of stages with a great musical score and classic action/platforming gameplay. Overall, I'd recommend it. This is a video of the first world. The game is free and you can get it at:
