This is the first time I've ever dived into Minecraft. I have no idea what to expect, no idea what to do. I'm aware of MC, but this'll be the first time ever doing anything with it.

After this first session, it's very clear I could do with some pointers. Can anyone help with the following questions:
1) How do I find and mine metals with which to make tools and weapons?
2) Where should I be going?
