This video features discussion on my tendency for poor subject positioning in portraits. My favorite part of creating art is the actual painting, and I emphasize getting straight to that to the detriment of planning. I've practiced improving at freehand painting and drawing entirely so I can skip any measurement or grid steps. But, the big downside is that sometimes (or often?) my lack of preparation shows in these portraits. I have a tendency to place subjects a bit too far towards the top right - in the featured painting, I've done that to a significant degree.
