This patch has been in the making for over a decade now and its great to see it finally reach a completed state. Like the first part of this playthrough, I start with the "Versus" input mode. First- why you should use the Menu input method: Versus input is wonky in this. You'll start to get so many moves that they won't all show up in the battle menu so you basically have to memorize which ones you have learned. When you get super/desperation attacks, they require pressing all 4 buttons at the same time, and one of those buttons is the "cancel" button that stops your attack, which will result in these often not working. On top of this, the Menu input method will show you which enemies will be hit by multiple-target attacks, and the Versus style completely lacks this so you just feel like you're rolling the dice with many attacks. Save yourself some frustration and use Menu input instead- or maybe just use Versus input for the early portion of the game before you unlock desperation attacks, since you can switch at any time.
Tips:
- Hold d-pad left in Versus input mode to select your team for healing moves.
- Hold the C button to charge your POW meter in battle- especially helpful before boss fights!
- When the POW bar fills, you get three actions until it resets. This includes skipping turns, running from battle, or any selection. Desperation attacks instantly reset the bar- try to use them last!
Be sure to only use 2X CD speed for this one. The game may crash at parts and not boot properly if it is set higher than that.
Such beautiful artwork & animation throughout this one, and an awesome soundtrack. Fun to play through for that aspect alone, and plenty of replay value with the varied scenarios for each character & different team compositions.
The Neo Geo core was mostly made by Furrtek, who decapped the chips of the console to gain a new understanding of how the system works, resulting in the excellent MiSTer core you see today.
