📙 I have a MiSTer! Let's try out some very different NES games. Today I'm playing 'Destination Earthstar', a 1990 space sim, with elements from the Star Trek-style games such as 'Star Raiders'. I love that the enemies look like Star Wars Lambda-class shuttles from Return of the Jedi, instead of the TIE fighter-looking enemies from Star Raiders. Unfortunately, the side-scrolling Base Station stage is frustrating and ruins much of the fun.
Next is 'Rescue: The Embassy Mission', the 1989 port of 1988 Amiga game 'Hostages' by Infogrames. The ambition of this game is impressive - the terrorists move around the embassy building freely, and you use a combination of snipers and assault officers to kill the terrorists or bring the hostages to safety. The controls feel fast and responsive in this port, and the in-room movement is inverted, which makes more sense.
Finally I play 'Rad Racer' (1987) - which is a good attempt at making an 'OutRun'-style racing game on NES. Last, I'm playing sequel 'Rad Racer II' (1990).
The MiSTer is a FPGA-based open source emulation system that emulates a large variety of computers, consoles and arcade games from the 1990s and older.
