Psychicpie's Theory:
my theory is much like yours, that she was nice to everyone and might even have been a pony alicorn, but after enough betrayals and hate, she got sick of it, she started to want everyone of those terrible people pay for their behaviour. They crushed her heart too many times so that she wanted to repay the favor and remove their love, she cast a spell opon herself, making her able to feast on their love and gave her villagers the same gift thus making them all changelings, and since she created them, they were basicaly her children. Now she got an army of people who will help her. But her citizens were actually better of as it was before but blinded by the hate, she only saw ways to repay what they did to her.
Reason for hate: there's a lot of reasons it could have been just like there's a lot of reasons people hates world leaders
