Mobile Trainer (モバイルトレーナー) - Mobile System GB gameplay
The Mobile Adapter GB was actually packaged with two things, which include a Game Boy Color cartridge known as "Mobile Trainer", alongside the actual Mobile Adapter GB cable itself, that is/was used to connect to Japanese mobile phones. Mobile Trainer refuses to load unless the Mobile Adapter GB is connected, so I generated a cheat code (01067DC2) to trick the game into booting up the main menu and skip the set-up process.
Mobile Trainer was developed by "Missing Link"; a subsidiary of Denyusha who also developed the Pokémon Party mini. It was used to send contacts messages via the Game Boy, read other people's messages, and even use the Game Boy Color as an Internet browser via KDDI's Dion dial-up service network. The server was located at "gameboy.datacenter.ne.jp".
Unfortunately, the Mobile System GB service is long defunct as of December 14, 2002 and there were only a handful of games that used it, such as the Japanese versions of Pokémon Crystal, Mario Kart Super Circuit and the Japanese games Mobile Golf and Monster Guardians. The most popular use was Japanese Pokémon Crystal's Mobile System GB service, and the service would charge you to use it. Not much remains on the Internet about the Pokémon Mobile System GB anymore, and the only solid facts from Nintendo.co.jp's archives is that first you were able to gather other people's Battle Tower rosters (carried forth to D/P), second do a global Pokémon trade (also carried forth to D/P), third set up your own profile and view about other people's save files via the Pokémon News Machine and fourth have access to occasional events such as access the GS Ball gift. I have also heard of rumours, such as being able to participate in quizzes with familiar NPCs and an unknown NPC called "Chieko" (believed to be based on Kurt's granddaughter Maisy).
