Transform a Water type Pokémon into Mew glitch - experimentation (Red/Green/Blue JP)
More information here: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Second_type_glitch
Thanks to Japanese Pokémon select button glitch websites, Meowth346 for discussing this glitch on the Azure Heights forums in 2001, gunbladelad77 for sharing it on GameFAQs in 2009 and then finally ginothepro for uploading footage of it on a real Game Boy in 2012. Unfortunately, the original method freezes BGB, so I've found a different method that lets you get a Mew/water-type Pokémon hybrid. It won't be stable unless you stabilise it via evolution or Pokémon Stadium 2. Otherwise, it's probably best to replace a Psychic type Pokémon in the same experience group as Mew (medium-slow), such as Kadabra.
The result depends on the index number of the Pokémon's second type. For example, a Spearow gives Kangaskhan (index number 02) because its second type is Flying (02). Internally, a Pokémon with a single type uses an identical second type, for example a Rattata is type Normal/Normal. Note that some glitch types display as "Normal". Below is a list of types and what type corresponds with which Pokémon. This is also probably an easy way to find out the index numbers for different glitch types.
