Okay! Looks like I have narrowed the culprits down to a faulty XLR cable and also what looks like a suboptimal adapter. For some reason the line in on the mixer only picks up.

I apologize for the constant cuts. This was filmed whenever I had a spare minute over the course of the last few days. Weekends are when I have the kids to look after the entire day (no problem :)
