11st clear on Moon Dancer PC port (Non-Steam) ver. 1.0.1!
This is the 2nd time I clear a checkpoint-based shmup!
Moon Dancer is a shmup by Terarin Games, which is inspired in Star Soldier and RayForce.
The game has 3 modes:
-Tutorial: Learn how to play the game and understand it`s mechanics.
-Arcade: 8 stages with 3 difficuty modes.
If you die, you get back to the beggining of an area, you lose all the carried gems, and recoveries can be a little difficult.
-Caravan: A 3-minute score attack mode with no checkpoint system.
You have a lock-on sight, in which you can use it to attack enemies.
You have 4 lock-on laser variants:
-Spear Laser: Laser that can hit targets quickly. Can lock-on up to 10 times.
-Multi Laser: Has a lock-on circle around the ship. Can lock-on up to 12 times.
-Napalm Laser: Explosive lasers with high power. Can lock-on up to 6 times.
Missiles and bullets are easily cancelled by killing enemies.
Chains are created by hitting anything targetable with one of your lock-on lasers. It increases by one per laser that connects and does not go up if the target is destroyed before the laser hits it. The time window for increasing your chain is quite short: it is impossible to go up to max number of lock-ons without losing it, and it appears to be impossible to chain entire stages on account of lulls during level transitions. A considerable amount of score can be gained or lost through maintaining long chains.
Idiotic deaths I had in this run:
Stage 7-2: I mistakenly ran towards missiles while trying to speedkill the twin missile mechas.
Boss 8-3: I got too greedy trying to speedkill the boss and I accidentally killed myself with one it`s lasers.
