There are loads of rhythm / fitness experiences in VR and especially on quest, so to find another video showing one will probably leave you thinking, why...why, isn't there enough already.
For me rhythm games are as much about the musical content as the game mechanics, perfectly placed cubes, stars or orbs are all very impressive, but if the music isn't catchy or recognisable then often after a few plays you will move onto the next game, never to return. This is were Moonrider has the upper hand on many others, it has a vast catalogue of popular well known tracks already built in, many are modded maps from Beat Saber.
The layout of Moon Rider is a menu system that has three modes, punch mode like Box VR, Ride Mode simply just enjoy the music and visuals and classic mode which is like Best Saber slash the arrows. The music tracks are laid out in front of you to scroll through, with different levels of difficulty on some of the tracks. There is also a leaderboard if you want to get competitive.
Playing Moon Rider will depend on the mode selected, but on each there is currently just a single location that you can select the colour layout. The path winds and weaves it’s way in front of you, similar to that of the one found in Thumper, without the horror theme. Targets will come towards you to be punched or slashed dependent on the mode chosen, my preferred mode, definitely punch mode, the timing feels right, you are rated by a percentage as well as a score and this is based on timing and force so really allows for some pretty sweaty workouts.
This game can only be played by connecting to Side Quest, starting the app from there and streaming wirelessly to your headset, I have not experienced any issues with this method, it is seamless both visually and aurally.
This is one of the better rhythm games out there, huge catalogue of music tracks and solid tracking mechanics. If you enjoy fitness and music, this is a must.
