The difficulty in trying to find a distinguished piece of music in 999 is largely because the game follows the same tone throughout. From beginning to end, the game immerses you in a sense of intensity and anguish. The result is a largely foreboding soundtrack with little room for any huge tonal changes - I've got a strong feeling every piece in the game is in a minor key! If you are looking for a cheerful piece, you won't find it. Just an even more complicated roller-coaster of emotions. In fairness, the story is consistently despairing after all and so you might expect it to be difficult to find a piece of music which really stands out. If all pieces in a game make you want to cry than how could it be possible to find a piece of music that makes you went to cry even more than the rest! But, Morphogenetic Sorrow is that piece. From the original's choice of instruments to the context it plays in-game, Morphogenetic Sorrow is haunting. Never has a game of Sudoku felt so haunting!

I wanted to make sure I captured these emotions in my arrangement while attempting to give it a unique flavour to the original and not make it a direct orchestrated copy. So in the end, quite a lot of instruments were used when making this one. Much more than I expected there to be when I was originally planning it. As I was composing, I just felt that there needed to be an added level of depth to make the piece sound more rounded and complete.

It was completely unintentional but I realised the arrangement becomes most dramatic at 2:41, where coincidentally Junpei is at the center of the video. I'm not sure how that happened but it's only fitting I guess. At 2:14 it was quite tempting to just loop the entire piece again like the original does, but I thought for this one there was a lot more I could add.

A lot of this description won't make a lot of sense until you have played the game. If you haven't it's a must if you love story driven games! As a matter of fact "Zero Escape: The Nonary Games" was announced for the PS4/PSVita. The release is stated as Spring 2017. It will include '999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors' and its sequel, 'Virtues Last Reward,' in HD with both English and Japanese voice acting.

Hope you enjoy!
