KINTARO PLAYTHROUGH
Mortal Kombat II Unlimited is an extensive hack of the original Mortal Kombat II on the genesis. It restores many elements from the arcade original, make Kintaro, Shao Khan and the three secret character playable and change the ending sequence to look like the Arcade game.
It also adds many new features that are not present in the Arcade original, such as combo, background from the first Mortal Kombat, and a complete set of fatality to Jade, Noob Sabot and Smoke. Every character now has an ending, but those who didn’t have one in the original game where custom created for this hack only. Brutality is also present. The character cast is also different to gather every character of the game.
For authenticity, an earlier version of hack was chosen for the run. The supreme demonstration is disabled and the combo system is off. Lastly, ending is not present for them.
Kintaro is the sub-boss of MK2, he belongs to the same kind as Goro and is very powerful. However, he is unplayable in all official port of the game.
The hack makes it possible to play as him and is quite accurate to his boss counterpart. His moveset only consist of powerful move. He has a standing punch that knocks his opponent downs. His kick does the same thing, but deal more damage. He can also uppercut, sending his opponent high in the air. He has three special moves in his set. He can launch his fireball, perform his teleport stomp and roar. He is unable to do his jumping taunt, however.
Beating the game with Kintaro is very easy, to the point that he has to lose in purpose. He has more health than the regular character and all his move remove a quarter of the player health. However, getting a perfect game is complete luck based. This is because Kintaro cannot avoid any projectile, with the exception of Kitana and Jade’s Fan Throw. Even if he jumps, he is going to get hit. If he blocks, he will lose a chip of health, preventing a perfect play. The only exception is Scorpion’s spear (but only the first hit) and Sub-Zero’s Freeze. He is also immune to Reptile’s fireball.
A lot of trial and error are required in order to make sure that the CPU doesn’t start the round with a projectile, this also applies to the CPU Kintaro, who will shoot his fireball depending of the player action. His roar that he does after all his move but the fireball is automatic and can't be controlled. He also have a delay before he can be controlled after these moves if he doesn't roar.
As a side note, Ermac replace Jade when you win a round with only low kick just before the question mark. He is not in the original game or any other port of Mortal Kombat II and was added by the hack author.
