Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks | 2005 | Into the Adventure! | Playstation 2
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is a 2005 action-adventure beat 'em up video game developed and published by Midway for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. A spin-off of the Mortal Kombat franchise, it is a retelling of the events of Mortal Kombat II (1993). Players control the eponymous Shaolin monks Liu Kang and Kung Lao in either single player or cooperative play as they protect Earthrealm from the forces of Outworld. Released in North America on September 19, 2005, the game received positive reviews for transitioning the series into an adventure game and its co-op mode. It was also a commercial success, selling over one million copies.
GAME RECORDING INFO:
The game was upscaled to 4k, without bi-linear filtering, and retaining the original aspect ratio. Choosing an internal resolution to make these PS2 recordings was a little tricky, as it has different video modes and varies according to each game. However, I chose the internal resolution of 720p (2X), this is the maximum non-interlaced resolution of the video modes that the original hardware could output. There are a few games that support 1080i, but that's almost never a good resolution to use. I also use a shader / filter that simulates a CRT TV. And also I've created a a 3d image of a PS2 game room with a TV from the early 2000s to use as an overlay, to create a nostalgic atmosphere.
