Mother 2 Gameplay - Part 2 - Twoson
Let's head to town two (otherwise known as Twoson!)
It looks like it's time for Ness to join forces with a new ally and permanent team member, although her whereabouts are a mystery. A little exploration should give us some answers hopefully!
First and foremost, upgrades to gear! The only major upgrade in Twoson is the copper bracelet which does add some defense points. Sadly no upgrades to Ness's bat :(
Depending on level, the enemies in Twoson can be anywhere from challenging to manageable. The Partyman, Cranky Lady, Hippie, Local Guy, and Everdred all pack a punch but can be dealt with at levels 17-20.
Then comes Grateful Dead Valley, which as the name suggests is definitely a handful. If the fact that we have to trek through the first section only to find the Pencil Statue blocking the path isn't hard enough, there are plenty of enemies here with movesets that prove to be more than just inconvenient. UFOs that can move faster than the team and fire beams while doding multiple hits, Spinning Robos firing sniffle beams and casting physical shields, Walking Sprouts draining PP, and worst of all the Territorial Oaks dealing mortal damage as soon as it's defeated. Thankfully the Hard Hat here significantly boosts Ness's defense stats but it doesn't show up until near the end of the valley.
Once in Happy Happy Village, we can breathe a bit easier knowing that there is a resting location and some more weapon upgrades. It's time to equip the Sandlot Bat! The Insane Cultists can be a bit troublesome because of their ability to call for help but by level 21-24, they do minimal damage. Conveniently there is a food stand outside the drug store that provides infinite eggs (and even more conveniently at free price!). What a great way to recover HP and generate money through an endless supply of chickens! :D
Here we also finally learn the whereabouts of poor Paula! Surprisingly the Spiteful Crows around her cabin engage in head on battles rather than running away which becomes a minor inconvenience. But with the stats of our hero, they are no match :)
After defeating Carpainter and the cultists, it's time to join forces with Paula and bring her on to the team. But with her low stats, why not level her up? Let's head to Lilliput Steps. This section is definitely daunting, but with Paula's deadly PSI attacks and gradual level ups, she's more than capable of holding her own against the moles, bears, and bats even while Ness is down. Gotta love how that fight with Mondo Mole plays out - PSI Thunder for the win!
Once the duo are between levels 25-30, the journey through Grateful Dead Valley is much easier. The Oaks though are still a pain to fight and worth avoiding. Once in Twoson, Ness and Paula are welcomed back to Polestar with warm responses from family and friends. Everdred also gives a clue about what to do next. Once things are settled at Chaos Theater, it's time to head to Threek!
